Check whether a file was made with AI

Everything Sonize creates is made with AI and marked as AI-generated. Check a song, a video, a cover or lyrics yourself, and learn what these checks can’t tell you.

What you will achieve

You know whether a file carries a mark that says it was generated by AI, and how to ask Sonize when it carries none.

Before you start

  • Every song, cover, clip and lyric text that Sonize creates is AI-generated. Where Sonize displays them, it shows the AI-generated label.
  • The song and video files that Sonize delivers carry Content Credentials (the C2PA standard): signed information inside the file that says it was generated by AI. New cover images carry Content Credentials too. Older covers may carry only a simpler, unsigned tag in the image details (the IPTC field Digital Source Type), or no mark.
  • Lyrics are plain text. They carry no hidden mark and no watermark. The AI-generated label shown with them is what identifies them.

On the web

  1. 1

Get the original file. Download it from Sonize, or ask the person who sent it to you for the file itself. A copy that was converted, screenshotted or re-recorded has lost its marks.

  2. 2

Open https://verify.contentauthenticity.org in a browser. It is a public Content Credentials verifier. Sonize does not run it, and you don’t need an account.

  3. 3

Drop the song, video or cover file on the page, or select it from your device. The verifier shows the Content Credentials it finds. In a file from Sonize, they say the content was generated by AI.

  4. 4

Look at who issued the Content Credentials. For now, those issued by Sonize can show an unrecognized or unknown issuer, because Sonize’s publicly trusted certificate is still pending. Some files carry the Content Credentials of the AI model’s provider instead, and the verifier names that provider.

  5. 5

Optional, for a song or a cover: Google states that its music and image models add an invisible watermark called SynthID, and it offers a detector at https://synthid.com. You must accept Google’s terms to use it, and it may ask you to sign in. Sonize adds no watermark of its own and can’t confirm what the detector will find.

Expected result

The verifier shows Content Credentials saying the file was generated by AI. If it shows none, you know why that can happen and how to ask Sonize.

Important

These marks are stored in the file’s details. They disappear when a file is converted to another format, compressed again, screenshotted or re-recorded. A file with no mark is not proof that a person made it. Removing a mark to pass a song off as made by a person is against the Sonize Terms.

Fix a problem

Problem: The verifier finds no Content Credentials.

What to doCheck that you used the original file from Sonize. A converted, screenshotted or re-recorded copy no longer carries them, and a file made before Sonize added these marks may carry none. An older cover image may carry only the unsigned tag, which this verifier does not show.

Problem: The verifier says the issuer is unrecognized or unknown.

What to doThis is expected for now. Sonize signs with a temporary certificate that verifiers don’t list as trusted yet. The Content Credentials still say the file was generated by AI.

Problem: You want to check lyrics or another text.

What to doNo tool can read a mark in text, because there is none. Contact support and paste the text. Our team checks it against the record Sonize keeps of what it generated and tells you the result.

Problem: The file was converted, or its marks were removed.

What to doContact support and describe the file: its name, where you got it and, if you have it, the link to the song. Our team tells you how to send the file, then checks it against the record Sonize keeps of what it generated.

Problem: The SynthID Detector finds nothing, or you can’t use it.

What to doThat tool belongs to Google. It only looks for the SynthID watermark and is not a general AI detector, so finding nothing proves nothing. Sonize doesn’t run it. Rely on the Content Credentials check, or contact support.
